A new Lean-oriented organizational model | Case Study

Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara, now owned by the BPER Banca Group, has placed a strong emphasis on a general improvement of its internal business processes, initiating a program to increase the number of branches in the territory, and this has involved the introduction of new activities for the centralized back office and made it necessary to launch a porgram of Change Management With focus on organizational structure.

Faced with an increase in effort related to the increased number of branches to follow and the introduction of new activities required at the Centralized Back-Office, it became necessary to evaluate staff sizing and cut down non-value-added activities.

Scope of intervention

The activities carried out by our consulting team with the client team:

  • Implementation of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) to analyze current document processes in detail
  • Value Stream Map of existing processes
  • Implementation of the Pillar of Peole Development starting with mapping of resource competencies to highlight any gaps and detailed analysis of workloads to create a balanced flow based on the value stream and functions involved
  • Activity measurement and subsequent workload analysis of the individual and the function
  • Mapping of IT tools and proposals for improvement born through a process Digitalization program
  • Creating procedures and standards for activities and sharing suggested improvement actions for better management

Objectives achieved

  • Decrease in non-value assets
  • Normalization of workloads and creation of backup figures not previously present
  • Structuring a new organizational and functional model
