A new layout to make the value flow | Case Study

Scenario

The management of Thyssenkrupp Ceteco, Europe's leading manufacturer of stairlifts and mini-elevators for the elderly and disabled, needs to respond more promptly to end-customer demands in order to maintain competitive advantage and not lose market share.
The request made to the Bonfiglioli Consulting team was very clear: you need to reduce the lead time of product traversal by focusing on the assembly cycle.

Areas of intervention

The project focused on designing a new layout of the assembly lines and defining a new way of handling materials in order to optimize the space occupied and make the value flow better.

Among the activities performed by our team of consultants with the client's team:

  • Process mapping and implementation of the Time&Management technique to identify areas for improvement in the assembly area
  • Defining a new or layout to ensure the takt time required by the market
  • Defining a new layout for the creation of new lines with an indication of station number and the arrangement of tools and materials in each work area.

Results

The goals achieved by the team were:

  • A 37% reduction in assembly hours per individual device
  • A reduction in the assembly lead time of the 50%
  • Zeroing in stock of Work In Progress (initially estimated to be 2 weeks in stock)
  • Reducing the occupied space of 50%
