Practical course on optimizing business processes with value stream mapping

In the Lean approach, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is the tool for mapping the entire value stream within a business process, at the level of materials, processes and communications, allowing the identification of waste and areas for improvement. The application of this tool, also involves establishing the desired future state (Future State Map) and the definition of an improvement plan with specific KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to be monitored for its achievement.

Value Stream Mapping thus enables a systematic focus on continuous efficiency in the production process, with a progressive reduction in so-called lead times.

 

Acquire skills to Map the Flow.

At the end of the course, participants will acquire a precise method for:

  • Have a clear and comprehensive view of the flows for a product family
  • calculate the Flow Index
  • Identify waste and non-value-added activities (NVAA - Not value added activities or "muda")
  • Create a Future State Map that allows for the reduction of existing waste
  • Coordinate the use of the different Lean tools (by way of example Kanban, 5S, JIT, TPM, SMED...)

  • Value stream mapping theory: production families, flows and symbology
  • Data needed: UpTime (UT), DownTime (DT), Setup Time (SU), Process Time (TP), Cycle Time (TC), Takt Time and Lead Time
  • Phase balancing
  • Action plan: how to map and improve the steps

Learning by Doing session: Team exercise on value stream mapping.

The course is aimed at Production Managers, Production Managers, Continuous Improvement Managers, Lean Specialists, Department Managers, Foremen, Supervisors, Team Leaders, Quality Managers, Process Technicians.

The lecturers are consultants with many years of experience in business improvement projects.

The course has an 8-hour in-person duration. The in-person activity involves a strong alternation between: experiential activity, discussion and confrontation, presentations and sessions learning-by-doing.
