The Benchmarking Study, today's Permanent Observatory What's Next in Operations? every two years returns an updated snapshot of the state of maturity of Italian companies along five strategic areas: Operational Excellence, Supply Chain, Digital Transformation, Sustainability and Human Resources.

This Study, conducted during 2025, on a sample of more than 100 companies belonging to 22 industries-for 85% represented by C-level figures -provides a multifaceted picture: solid on the Operations and Sustainability fronts, but still characterized by a significant digital divide. Italian Companies show good maturity on the Operations front (71%) and strong awareness in Sustainability (89%). However, an alarming Digitalization Divide emerges: with an average Digitalization Score of just 48%, digital transformation is the area with the greatest potential for improvement. Only 4% of the analyzed sample is a true Smart Factory.

Some Key Finidngs:

Adoption of Artificial Intelligence remains limited: 55% of companies have not yet implemented it, 34% have started or partially implemented it, and only 3% are using it in an established or steadily improving way.

The industrial processes among companies in italy, including procurement, inbound and outbound logistics, and production, show good operational maturity (71%) and a clear strategic vision: 62% of companies say they have a Operational Excellence program, and 75% plan on horizons longer than three years. Priority objectives are to differentiate in terms of product innovation, service and quality (88%), optimize processes to reduce product costs (83%), and accelerate time-to-market (72%).

The HR remains a strategic pillar of industrial transformation, cwith an average maturity level of 58% and a growing trend. Training programs focus on technical skills (88%), soft skills (77%), sustainability (63%), and new technologies (63%), with an increasing focus on Artificial Intelligence (40%).
