Product or process innovation is a powerful tool that can produce new value for the enterprise today and tomorrow.

Innovation is commonly imagined as a spontaneous process, the result of an individual's creativity, whereas instead it relies mainly on enabling factors such as strategies, operational processes and corporate culture.

Innovation Excellence Study, the research, conducted by Bonfiglioli Consulting in collaboration with the Centre for Family Business Management at the Free University of Bolzano, took a snapshot of how Italian companies are managing their innovation processes.

Highlights

  • The research results show that companies are innovating, especially in terms of internal processes and products, but still struggle to explore new ways of creating customer value.
  • The profile of innovating firms is strongly correlated with their family or non-family nature*. In fact, family firms, of the sample, are more likely to adopt an unstructured approach to innovation.
  • Companies with skills and a culture of 'innovation are more satisfied with their performance. Skills and culture are even more important than the presence of structured processes to support innovation itself.
  • The issue of human resources appears, therefore, to be the central element on which the ability to innovate for Italian companies will be played out.
